Flooring Apprenticeship hits the ground running

CP Assessments successfully launched its flooring apprenticeship last week, welcoming six newcomers to the flooring trade, who all successfully completed the first week of the apprenticeship.

The first week involved health and safety, sub-floor preparation and completing a CSCS touch screen test to enable the apprentices to work on-site.

The apprenticeship was supported by Ardex who sent technical representative Darren Robinson to help deliver the training and give insight into the Ardex product range.

Darren Robinson said: “We are delighted to be working with Flooring Assessments and showcasing the Ardex products to the next generation of floor layers, the week was great fun and it was brilliant to see such enthusiastic newcomers to the flooring trade”.

By the end of the week all the apprentices were demonstrating good knowledge identifying different sub floors, testing for moisture, installing DPM’s, primers, smoothing compounds and overlaying timber substrates with plywood.

Broden Hardcastle, an apprentice from Geoff Dadswells Carpets said: “I have really enjoyed my first week and have learnt new skills that I can use in my flooring career. Daniel, Dave and Darren made the sessions enjoyable and if any of us struggled with a specific task they would take time and show us again. I am really looking forward to the training session and learning many more lifelong skills.
